ST JOHN'S VICARAGE - Physical Description 1
The Vicarage would appear, from the rate books, to have been constructed in 1873 by the Trustees of St.John's Church in Armstrong Street, as a Vicarage with the Reverend C.R. Watson as the first residence.
The simple intersecting gal of the building, and plain facade with two paired double hung windows is enhanced by the soft brown bricks used in its construction, the projecting bay window and verandah iron, The projecting bay comprises 3 windows, two narrow lights flanking a wider central light, 'with a lancet shaped corbelled plaster decorative band below the eaves line. Above the bay is a circular fan light with a trefoil pattern in timber. The verandah has cast iron posts, doubled at the entrance and corner, supporting cast. iron brackets which terminate in pendent drops and support a cast iron frieze of a tendril pattern.
