Lake Wendouree - Physical Description 1
This building was constructed for the Ballarat Water Supply in 1884-86 and was first occupied on the 25th June 1886. It was built by Llewellyn & Edwards Contractors for [2156 to the design of Caselli & Figgis Architects. The original building, visible in an early photo, extended only 5 bays along Grenville Street with the fourth and fifth bay of One storey only. In 1926 these two bays were increased to two storeys in height; in 1936 an additional 3 bays were added to the Grenville street elevation; and in 1962 the new extensions were added along Lewis Street.
'This building is a fine example of consistently detailed Renaissance Revival architecture, with a rusticated base course and piano nobile first floor.
There have been several alterations and modifications undertaken, but these do not seriously detract from the building: the chimneys have been simplified, a door relocated, and the cement render facade painted.
This building provides an important corner streetscape element. It is substantially intact and is in good condition.Lake Wendouree - Integrity
