ST ALIPIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH & PRESBYTERY - Physical Description 1
This is basically a simple red brick hipped roof building enriched by a heavy verandah treatment, decorative parapet, and cast iron fence. Over the symmetrical bay windows on the front are two projections which break through the verandah roof to form Flemish Baroque gablets which terminate in Norman crosses. In the gablets are two lancet arched louvred vents with rendered label moulds terminating at impost level. The main roof hip also terminates in a Norman cross, and the chimneys have brick strap work and decorative render trim, although .the chimney pots are now missing. The brick verandah is supported on brick piers with engaged ,twisted columns with Corinthiansing capitals supporting segmental arches marked by cream render. Above, this is a rendered parapet with segmental arch headed panels between cornices. There is a rendered balustrade with lancet arch panels. The entrance bay projects slightly forward with a Flemish gable and cross. It is a cast iron double palisade fence with alternating at nouveau style palisade heads. The gate is intact. The Presbytery is an important element in this environmental area, especially in conjunction with St. Alpius school.
