Statement of Significance
Non-original alterations and additions, other than those specified above, are not significant.
Aesthetically, it is a superior example of a late Victorian villa, especially in such a commercial area. The building significantly contributes to the streetscape of Ridgway and the historic and aesthetic character of Mirboo North. This significance can be seen in the context of the property, adjacent to the former Colonial Bank of Australasia and a Victorian shop (see MI-RI-060, MI-RI-062). (Criteria E)
This home was built for Mr. Adam L Ogilvy, an accountant and magistrate in the Shire of Woorayl. He also played a key role in the separation of the Shires of Woorayl and Narracan to be the Shire of Mirboo. Mr Ogilvy became the Shire valuer at the Shire of Mirboo, and became an important figure within the community. The significant influence that Mr Ogilvy had over the district contributes to the significance of this property due to its close association with him. (Criterion H)
