JUMPING CREEK BRIDGE - Heritage Inventory Description
A single abutment of a timber bridge carrying the Jumping Creek Road over Jumping Creek. It was built approx 1929 and was burnt out (except for the single abutment) in the 1939 bushfires. The northern abutment is missing, this one beig on the south (Warrandyte) side.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Local significance. Maybe at point of very old crossing e.g. as shown in 1875 parish of Warrandyte plan.
Heritage Inventory Site Features: The timber abutments are all that is left of the 1929 bridge which replaced a previous timber bridge. this abutment is secured in the bedrock and there is fill behind it. Its replacement passes downstream and above it . There is no indication of the matching abutments on the opposite bank. Heritage Inventory Key Components: A 4m long horizontal beam supported on four main timber posts of 330mm diameter, bolted in place. The posts also hold several rough sawn planks which hold the fill behind the abutment.
