NORTH ARM BRIDGE, LAKES ENTRANCE - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: The Bridge was constructed in 1916 to replace an earlier 1872/3 wooden bridge. The 1916 Bridge was subsequently widened some time before the 1940s. Repairs have also been made to the pylons. A new bridge has been proposed to replace the existing bridge.Heritage Inventory Description
NORTH ARM BRIDGE, LAKES ENTRANCE - Heritage Inventory Description
Concrete bridge with supporting structure of concrete pylons. Abutments at either end of bridge surrounded by earth embankments. Embankments secured by concrete wings and stonework. Bridge has two lanes and a pedestrian pathway on southern side. Concrete railings along edges of bridge. Bridge runs approx. E-W across North Arm.
Heritage Inventory Significance: LocalThe North Arm Bridge could be one of the earlier concrete bridges built in Victoria. Reinforced concrete bridges first constructed in Victoria at Benalla (1910) over Broken River and Laane Coorie (1911) over the Loddon River, see C. O'Connor, Spanning Two Centuries: Historic Bridges of Australia, UQP, St. Lucia, 1985.
