FORMER GIDNEY FARM - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site:
Isaac Gidney established a large farm at Rockbank in the 1870's , a nearby dam and fruit trees and former homestead surround the form buildings. The site was acquired by the department of Defence after WWII.

FORMER GIDNEY FARM - Archaeological Significance
Gidney Farm is of medium archaeological significance and maintains a moderate level of intactness and integrity. Some of the features that werer recorded in 2000 (see earlier site card) no longer remain. There is the potential for subsurface features/ deposits associated with the use and construction of the site to remain around the dairy building.
FORMER GIDNEY FARM - Historical Significance
Gidney Farm is of historical significance for its relationship to local farmer Isaac Gidney from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. It is also important for the association in maintains with the development of farming in the region and represents the second phase of pastoral activity in Melton Shire.

FORMER GIDNEY FARM - Heritage Inventory Description
Updated description: Site comprises remains of a gable dairy building constructed of timber framing and corrugated iron cladding and roofing. The structure is collapsed. Sugar gums are located at the east with a peppercorn tree at the southwest corner fo the dairy. An artefact scatter remains around the structure and a stone consumption wall with cypress trees is located to the west along a boundary.

Part of Isaac Gidney's former consumption wall - a unique feature in the region.
