    Heritage Inventory History of Site:
    Until regular rubbish service, creek bank would have been the major dumping site. Relatively good history of site would exist in archival documentation. Continuos use of site as hotel since 1850's.

    BEACONSFIELD HOTEL SCATTER - Interpretation of Site

    Heritage Inventory Interpretation: Beaconsfield Hotel is on the site of the original (Bowmans Inn 1850's). It was the owner of this hotel who commissioned a road connecting this hotel with the Yarra Track. Hotel then became a major provisioning point. The range of artefacts that are present indicate a prosperous and well stocked business. Further investigation required to clearly establish link.

    Exposed scatter adjacent to existing hotel. Old dump site on former Cardinia Creek bank./n

    Heritage Inventory Significance:/nLocal - though may be higher. The site was once Mrs Bowman's Hotel who commissioned the 1850's road to Yarra Track.

    Recorded by Andrea Murphy Date Recorded: 10/08/00 Heritage Inventory Key Components: /nRange of 1860-1890's black/green champagne, gin, beer bottles - all sizes. Stoneware ginger beer and demi john fragments. Green bottle - torpedo etc. Window glass. Ceramics - transfer print (eg willow). Hand-made bricks./nHeritage Inventory Site Features: /nDue to recent cleaning and stockpiling old Cypress tree line a large number of artefacts have become exposed owing to ground disturbance. This former creek bank has been the dumping area since 1850's. A large possibly undisturbed dump of 1860-1870's commercial artefacts comprises mostly broken artefacts. Likely to be complete material preserved below.
