    Heritage Inventory History of Site:
    Township of Koonwarra was settled in 1892

    KOONWARRA 1 - Interpretation of Site

    Heritage Inventory Interpretation: Possibly structure(s) associated with railway station. Path from structure led to top of wooden steps down to railway platform. Dump to south east comprises mostly white china fragments and may be a dump for broken railway crockery, etc.

    KOONWARRA 1 - Heritage Inventory Description

    Two concrete slabs, traces of wall foundations, septic tank, brick-lined path, wooden steps. Concrete drain. Approximately 50 m to the south east in same paddock are further traces of concrete foundations/slab/paving, 2 wooden posts and many historic artefacts (mostly early-mid 20th century) ceramics eroding from bank./n

    Heritage Inventory Significance: Local historical and social significance for its links to the history of the Koonwarra district and of the railway.

    Recorded by: Vincent Clark & Melanie Thomson Date Recorded: 01/06/00/nDr Clark notes that there is a photograph c. 1940 in Koonwarra Store/Post Office/CafÚ showing railway station with tennis courts in background. Structures may have been part of tennis courts or, more likely, railway structures. Heritage Inventory Key Components: Concrete slab foundations, remnants of wall foundations, pathway and steps. Deposit of historic artefacts./nHeritage Inventory Site Features: Site is located between South Gippsland Highway and former South Eastern Railway (now a "Rail Trail"). Land is fenced on both highway and railway side. Main features are concrete slabs and traces of wall foundations. Possible dump area with historic artefacts lies approximately 50 m to south east of these foundations across a shallow drainage line.
