Salvation Army William Booth Memorial Citadel - Physical Description 1
This building, constructed in 1917 to the design of the Salvation Army, is of interest for the variety of architectural motifs. Unlike several other citadels of this period, it is not castellated, and the classical triangular pedimental motif is in marked contrast to the six projecting pinnacles.
The composition is divided vertically into three sections by banded pilasters which project through the parapet and are capped by pinnacles.
Rendered horizontal bands at first floor and the parapet serve to divide the facade horizontally.
This building provides a focal point to this streetscape. The juxtaposition of classical, Edwardian, and eastern influences combine to produce a building of' striking composition, though somewhat inconsistent design.
The external carcass appears in good condition and is relatively intact.Heritage Study and Grading
