WALKERVILLE SCHOOL - History
Lime deposits found in Waratah Bay in 1875 and six kilns were operating by 1878. Township established from 1878, kilns operated to 1924. During its heyday up to 50 families lived in the township and the surrounding area (1890s). Number declined after this period. Brick walls with some plaster falling apart. Bricks have been removed, some parts overgrown. Cement floor with some paint on it? Cement or plaster eroded by path and foot traffic. Bordered by steep slope to beach.
