MELTON VALLEY GOLF COURSE - History
The place is the site of the first Melton township dating to 1853. The township included Lynch's cottage, Melton's first hospital; the Melton Hotel, Melton's first hotel; house sites; Temperance Hall; and a water bore from the 1890s. The golf course was established in 1972.MELTON VALLEY GOLF COURSE - Interpretation of Site
The Melton Valley Golf Course is on the site of Melton's first township. Evidence relating to the use of the site remains and mainly includes plantings. Two graves from the Pyke family, the first settlers in Melton are located on site.
MELTON VALLEY GOLF COURSE - Archaeological Significance
The Melton Valley Golf Course/ Melton township site maintains many features including plantings, road/path alignments, underground tanks and graves associated with the first settlement of the area. The ground is highly disturbed and has been significantly modified for use as a golf course. The township site has low integrity and intactness. There is some potential for subsurface deposits to remain.

Melton Valley Golf Course is of local historical significance for its association with the first settlement of the township and retains evidence associated with the development of civic life in Melton. The site has important historical connections to the Pyke family, the first settlers in the Melton region.

MELTON VALLEY GOLF COURSE - Heritage Inventory Description
The Melton Valley Golf Course is on the location of the first Melton township. Evidence associated with the town includes a number of mature plantings including cypress pines and a fig tree. Two graves dating to 1850 and 1855 remain as well as a cement slab and underground tank with a new concrete cover.
