MCIVOR TIMBER & FIREWOOD COMPANY TRAMWAY - History
THE MCIVOR TIMBER & FIREWOOD COMPANY COMMENCED OPERATIONS IN 1906. THE TRAMWAY BRANCHED FROM THE VR HEATHCOTE LINE AT TOOBORAC AND WAS WORKED BY THE TWO BALDWIN LOCOMOTIVES. FIREWOOD AND MINING TIMBERS WERE CUT FROM THE AREA EAST OF HEATHCOTE, WITH CAMPS ESTABLISHED FOR FIREWOOD CUTTERS AND CHARCOAL BURNERS. EVENTUALLY, THE LINE EXTENDED AS FAR NORTH AS CHARRINGTON AND AS FAR EAST AS PUCKAPUNYAL. THE LINE CEASED OPERATING IN 1927MCIVOR TIMBER & FIREWOOD COMPANY TRAMWAY - Interpretation of Site
Locomotive shed, sawmill and manager's house remain at Tooborac beside junction with (dismantled) VR Heathcote line. Evidence of tramway formation includes embankments, remnant sleepers, culverts, cattle grids and bridge timbers.
