RAILWAY SIDINGS AND SHEDS (AREA C) - History
THE PORT PHILLIP SEA PILOTS' AND THE FISHERMAN'S ASSOCIATION WERE BOTH NOTED AS BEING ASSOCIATED WITH THE SHEDS. THE SHED ONCE BELONGED TO THE SEA PILOTS WAS NOTED AS SOLD TO THE PORTS AND HARBOURS DEPT IN 1928. A PARISH PLAN DATED 1936 SHOWED THE SIDING SHED TO HAVE BEEN EXTENDED AND MARKED "PORTS AND HARBOURS BUOY SHED".RAILWAY SIDINGS AND SHEDS (AREA C) - Interpretation of Site
SHOWN ON THE VICTORIAN RAILWAYS PLAN 1912. THIS PLAN REVEALED THAT A VR TRAIN TRACK RAN UP TO BEACH STREET AND DIVIDED INTO TWO SIDINGS AT THE BEGIINING OF THE JETTY. (FISHERMAN'S JETTY). ONE SIDING BELONGED TO THE VR AND THE OTHER WAS PRIVATE AND RAN INTO A SHED. A TRAIN TRACK RAN UP THE LENGTH OF THE PIER. TWO SHEDS WERE SITUATED ALONG THE SIDINGS. The building was used as a coal depot for the Port Phillip Sea Pilots, and later as a Buoy Storage Shed for the Ports and Harbours Department.
