Blackburn War Memorial - Veterans Description for Public
The Blackburn War Memorial, on Central Road, consists of an obelisk in front of Morton Park Tennis Club. It names thirty soldiers who fell in the First World War. The memorial was erected on behalf of the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces. The plaques read "For God, King and Country 1914-1919. Erected by the Blackburn residents as a tribute to the memory of their brave men who fell in the Great War. Lest we forget. Later, plaques were added to the monument for the conflicts that followed the First World War. The plaques read: "This plaque stands in recognition of those who served in the Korean, Malayan, South East Asian and Vietnam campaigns" and "Also in memory of the fallen World War II 1939-1945."
