Statement of Significance
Recommended Level of Significance: Local
Erected in 1921, the granite Bulla War Memorial is of local social, historical, and architectural significance for its memorialisation of local residents' participation in the Great War (World War I), in particular those gave their lives, and as an excellent example of the simple First World War memorials erected in many rural communities. The simple obelisk memorial is also a fine example of the design and constructional skill of the stonemason, F. Hallett.
Because of its siting in front of the former Bulla Shire Hall and near the relocated St. Mary's Anglican Church, the memorial is also a prime contributor to the immediate streetscape, and enhances the significance of this precinct.

Bulla War Memorial - Physical Description 1
A striking monument constructed of blocks of blue-grey granite - all except for the memorial block have been left rough-faced. At the base of the monument a large square plinth features small pillars (about a foot high) at each corner, and there is evidence to show that a length of chain was probably used to link each column. A smaller secondary plinth supports a large square block of granite, which acts as the sub-base to another block of granite. This main block has been polished smooth on all four of its gently tapering sides. It is here, on two of the sides, that the inscription and names are located. A roughly worked collar of stone separates this memorial section from the monolithic obelisk that surmounts the monument.
