GOVERNMENT QUARRY JETTIES - History
Two jetties fronting Greenwich Bay are shown linked to the Government Quarry via two tramways in 1879 (Bob Leak Collection #12).GOVERNMENT QUARRY JETTIES - Interpretation of Site
The Government quarry jetties (which includes a quarry, tramway and two piers) were possibly used to supply early ballast for shipping or for building material for the colony. This area has been subject to the land reclamation when the bay was filled, and archaeological remnants of these structures are likely to exist under Riverside Park.
