FORMER WERRIBEE RACECOURSE STATION - History
Wyndham Racing Course was established in 1861 and closed during the 1890s but reopened in 1912 as the Werribee Racing Club. The Werribee Racecourse Station was opened by 1890 and closed in 1995FORMER WERRIBEE RACECOURSE STATION - Interpretation of Site
The site was probably originally associated with a station building and a station house. However, these structures have been removed. The original platform may have consisted mainly of timber - all of which has been replaced, probably in the early 20th century, with concrete and steel.
FORMER WERRIBEE RACECOURSE STATION - Archaeological Significance
What remains at the stie (although probably not totally original) is in good condition and official documentation relating to this site would exist. Possibly with excavation the foundations for the station building and station masters house could be located. The archaeological significance of this site is medium.

A hunt through the official documentation would reveal information regarding this railway station and this alone gives the site a historical significance rating of medium.

FORMER WERRIBEE RACECOURSE STATION - Heritage Inventory Description
Updated description: This site is the old concrete, steel and bitumen railway platform for the Werribee Racecourse Station. The concrete and steel infrastructure is in good condition, but the platform surface is overgrown with weed vegetation. On the northern side of the platform end rail lines, 3 piles of bluestone and concrete lay abandoned.

Previous description: Remains of station platforms and possible remains of associated 1880s station master house and station building. Two disused platforms. One standing and one demolished.Nearby piles of rubble and bluestone.
