    Lake Lodge, Ballarat Botanic Gardens - Physical Description 1

    The building takes the form of a large cruciform garden pavilion with each arm Terminating in a 45 gable°. Decorative barge boards and brackets adorn the gables in a Swiss manner, below which the red ..brickwork of the gable ends is relieved by two thin lines of cream brick which step up in a crude echo of the roof slope. A verandah was added in 1892 (City of Ballarat Contract No.6.DD) which encircles the building. Gable ends project on each axis and a frieze of largely rectilinear design combined with elaborate brackets add interest to the building. Several roof elements have unfortunately been removed, but most serious is the alterations of the windows. However, this building forms part of an important group of buildings situated in a botanical garden; themselves of the utmost environmental importance.
