Statement of Significance
This place is included on the Victorian Heritage Register as a place of State significance (H2323). Please refer to the VHR Hermes record for the statement of significance for this place.
A large, brick structure with cement-render dressings, located next to the railway line. It was built as a Melbourne Metropolitan Tram Board power substation, when they took over the Essendon tram line, and appears to still fulfil this role. While utilitarian in purpose, it has been designed in the stripped Greek classicism popular in the 1920s. A local landmark thanks to its prominent location, scale, and design. Of potential historical and architectural significance.
