Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at East Melbourne St. Peter's Anglican Church - Memorial Window Description & History
Six weeks after the unveiling of the New Guinea Martyrs memorial window in the north transept, the Rev. Farnham Maynard was corresponding with Napier Waller once again for a War Memorial window to be installed opposite, in the south transept. He was keen to make this a 'Thankoffering for victory and peace' and expressed his definite views on subjects he anticipated should be part of the design. As in the earlier window, the idea was to have a series of scenes that traced Christianity through its heroes and servants. Because Waller had prior commitments to the Australian War Memorial he anticipated he could not complete the work before late 1948 or early 1949. The window was dedicated and unveiled by the Archbishop of Melbourne, JJ Booth on 6 February 1949.
