Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Brighton [Gardenvale] St. Stephen's Anglican Church - Memorial Window Description & History
The women who stayed at home while their fathers, husbands and sons were at war were rarely mentioned in the commemoration of war. They worked tirelessly for organisations supporting the war and the images in this window pay tribute to their personal contributions as caregivers, and the losses they sustained when loved ones did not return. The pale vertical borders at either side of the central images are taken from examples of caring and loss in the Bible. The window was the gift of the League of Service and Friendship, a fund-raising organisation formed in 1940 to support many causes within the parish, across Australia and overseas as was determined by the membership.
