Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Parkville Trinity College Anglican Chapel - Memorial Window Description & History
At the Armistice Day service on 11 November 1939, Bishop Green unveiled the east window, a memorial to the 41 Trinity College members who fell in the First World War. A tablet bearing the names of the men was unveiled at the entrance to the Chapel on the same occasion and Dr. JCN Behan, Warden of the College, read the honour roll.
The principal scene in the three-light window was the Crucifixion of Christ with Mary and John on the left hand and Mary, mother of John and Mary Magdalene on the right. The base panels were filled with St. Sebastian, Emperor Constantine and St. John Gualberto. The window was ordered from broks, Robinson & Co.in May 1939 and William Kerr-Morgan (1896-1967)devised all new cartoons for the commission. It was among the last windows to be built before the stained glass department was closed down for the duration of the war when stained glass was deemed a non-essential industry.
