Statement of Significance
Architecturally, a well preserved and obvious example of a standard design, adapted successfully to prevailing architectural fashion and reinforced by the adjacent station complex; of metropolitan importance. Historically, part of an extensive station complex developed substantially during Kensington's major urban growth period: of local importance.
NOTE: THIS PLACE IS NOT IN MOONEE VALLEY CITY. IT IS WITHIN THE CITY OF MELBOURNE.

Kensington Railways Signal Box - Physical Description 1
Built in the manner of the nearby station buildings, with polychrome brickwork and a hipped roof form, the terraced configuration is archi-typical for signal boxes built during the greater part of the railways' operation. Three sides of glazing at the upper level are accessed by a cantilevered wrought-iron walkway cum terrace, linked with ground by a timber stair. Detail includes a scalloped eaves valence and saltire-cross panels above the windows. Nearby, a Pepper tree adds period to the site.
Kensington Railways Signal Box - Integrity
Presumably a picket fence once enclosed the yard; trim colours have changed.
Kensington Railways Signal Box - Physical Description 2
Isolated but prominent and linked at a distance with the station complex and contemporary with the subway opposite (1890). Landscape once was more extensive than the still valuable Pepper tree.
