Statement of Significance
The shops at nos. 97-99 Mount Alexander Road, Flemington, were built as an investment for John Glover in 1886. They are aesthetically distinguished (Criterion E) for their elaborate facade treatment in the Gothic Revival mode, this importance being strengthened by their intact condition. Their association with the hotelier, John Glover of the "Cricket Club" hotel next door is of interest.

SHOPS & RESIDENCES - Physical Description 1
An unusually richly decorated Gothic Revival block of two storeyed shops in bi chrome work with bluestone plinth and stuccoed enrichment, the most distinguishing element being the round arched openings with lancet arched drip moulds and banded voussoirs. The facade treatment is pilastrated and there is a balustraded parapet. The shop fronts are original with cast iron verandahs.
