FLEMINGTON PRIMARY SCHOOL NO.250 - Physical Description 1
Part of the distinctive neo-Georgian school architecture practised under Public Works Chief Architect, E. Evan Smith, this is typically of red brick with a Marseilles tile roof, bracketted eaves, unusual corbelled and expressed chimney shafts, and a novel stepped plan. Multi-paned timber windows were used throughout, whilst the entrance is signalled by a stylised portico in antis, cemented in construction and supported from a bracketted ledge over the doorway. Reputedly remnant trees exist in the grounds from the Madden estate.
Steel windows appear to have replaced timber in a few crucial locations and an external fire escape added. The school is isolated from, but synonymous with the threshold development of Travancore, also on an elevated site.
