Statement of Significance
Architecturally, a near original and prominently sited revival design which shows little innovation after 20 years of similar designs: of regional interest as one of the few Tomkins churches.
Historically, of local importance as the only unaltered church building on this old site.

ST JOHN'S UNITING CHURCH - Physical Description 1
A modern church or stripped brick and stucco gothic revival church with a buttressed and gable nave, a wide-arched entrance porch, and a asymmetrically placed bell tower with a concrete spire. Generally original, except for the spire paint colour.
A major corner building which relates to the former Methodist church opposite and symbolises the historical southern extremity of the Essendon village reserve.
