Statement of Significance
Designed at least nominally by Percy Everett. Part of the police complex and the second policeman's house it has a typical garden for its period.
Second Policeman's Residence
9 Thompson Street
This building, constructed in 1947, has local significance as part of the police reserve and presence, a key factor in Hamilton's history from a very early date. ([i]) The new policeman's residence replaced an earlier two-roomed timber structure, which was moved to the rear of the site. ([ii]) The present building was designed, at least nominally, by Percy Everett, the head of the Public Works Department and an important influence on architecture through his position for decades. The house is significantly intact and is in good condition. The garden is typical for the period.
Also part of the significance is old red brick building, apparently a former lock-up, adjacent to the policeman's residence.
