Statement of Significance
SIGNIFICANCE: »Associated with former Wesleyan Methodist church, important building in the complex and for the streetscape.
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
Wesley Hall
113 Lonsdale Street
This building has local significance as part of the Methodist (now Uniting) church complex bounded by Alexandra Parade, Cox and Lonsdale Streets, and followed the construction, in 1913, of the new Methodist church and parsonage from the designs of the Ballarat architects, Clegg and Miller and Cain. ([i]) It is an important building in the complex and in the streetscape. The choice of the simple Gothic revival style was conventional, although by this time rather old-fashioned, for this conservative denomination and must be contrasted with its antipathy to the Gothic fifty years before. The building is substantially intact and in good condition.
