Statement of Significance
What is significant?
St. Agnes Catholic Church, at 9-11 Foster Road, Toora, built in 1908-09 with additions in 1950, is significant. The weatherboard Carpenter Gothic Church has a steeply pitched roof with cross-shaped finial at the end of each gable. The church has a projecting gable porch facing Foster Rd, with an arched side entry door. Lancet windows feature throughout the church, including one on the projecting porch and a circular vent. The later 1950 addition is the skillion addition at the rear of the church.

How is it significant?
St. Agnes' Catholic Church is of local historic, aesthetic and social significance to the South Gippsland Shire.
Why is it significant?
Historically, this is the third oldest Catholic Church in South Gippsland Shire, and is associated with the gradual expansion of the church in the early twentieth century. The church played an important role in serving the then remote districts between Foster and Yarram and was eventually raised to Parish status in 1940. It is also associated with the development of Toora in the early twentieth century and was one of two new churches established to serve the growing community. (Criterion A)
Aesthetically, it is a Carpenter Gothic church with typical distinctive form and features, which is an historic landmark within Toora. (Criterion E)
It has social significance for its strong and enduring associations with the Toora community through its use as a Catholic Church for over 110 years. (Criterion G)
