Statement of Significance
Architecturally, a large Queen Anne-style villa which appears externally near complete and retains some of its original garden setting. It is distinguished by its detailing and ornament and its contribution to a minor Edwardian residential streetscape.
Historically, the house was built for one of Bendigo's successful businessmen, William Hampton, and played a quasi-public building role in its latter-day use as a private hospital.

Glen Eagles Private Nursing Home & Garden - Physical Description 1
Originally a free-standing Queen Anne revival brick villa, set in a large allotment, this house was doubled in size during 1952 with the addition of a large sundeck, service rooms and extra bedrooms at the rear. The original front rooms were converted to Wards (5) and the side verandah enclosed as a 'sunroom'.[1] Today, none of these changes are visible from the street. Instead, there is a large hipped roof villa, with a projecting gabled bay and return bull nose-profile verandah with a gablet set over the stairway entrance to it. Typically the verandah frieze is slatted with a fretted onion-shaped cut- out in divider panels and 'archway' bracketing to both the verandah and the porch. Paired verandah posts are used at corners. The Gibbs surround is used on the flanking piers to the main bay's windows. Similarly, vertical slatting is used as the gable half-timbering to reinforce the prominence of this element. Leadlight glazing is another key element.
