Statement of Significance
THE DELL - CLIFTON SPRINGS
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE:
The Clifton Springs Mineral Spa Complex was established in the early 1870's and arose from the discovery of mineral springs along the foreshore. Up to eight springs were noted along the foreshore. The site currently consists of one bay steamer jetty or the Long jetty (uprights only), one bathing jetty (uprights only), two railway iron jetties (uprights only), foundations (timber, metal, brick, ceramics) of several buildings relating to the spa complex located along and partly buried with the foreshore sand.
It is of STATE cultural significance.

DESCRIPTION:
Site consists of one Bay Steamer Jetty (uprights only), one bathing jett (uprights only), two railway iron jetties (uprights only), foundations (timber, metal, brick, ceramic), of several buildings relating to the Spa Complex Foreshore rock has also been cut for the pipes to be lain. The springs are still functioning.
In the second dell area, towards the long jetty, part of the first 9 hole Golf Course was laid. A sand green was located on a flat area of the beach.
Site can be accessed brom Bay Shore Road (off both Jetty Road and Clifton Springs/Beacon Point Road). Turn north into Spring Street, and continue north along dirt track between the Bowls Club and The Springs to a gateway for 'The Dell'. Descend track to reserve. Remains visible along the beach.
Check Melways Reference Map No. 238. Co-ordinates B4, D3, F3, F2 (length of Foreshore). Main site covers approximately 900 metres of foreshore from Bathing Jett to Bay Steamer Jetty (extreme eastern edge area_
