Statement of Significance
The railway is of local historical and archaeological significance. It is of historical importance for its association with the economic growth and development of the area. The rail line is visually distinct within the landscape and should remain so. It has a moderate level of archaeological potential.

YEA-MANSFIELD RAILWAY - History
As a part of the state Government's initiative, through the Railway Construction Act 1884, to construct new rail lines in an attempt to increase economic development in regional areas, the Yea - Mansfield (1891) line was one of 53 to be constructed in the late 1800s. It was used as a goods and services route, taking in merchandise, farming equipment and general freight and transporting produce out up until 1978 when it closed.YEA-MANSFIELD RAILWAY - Interpretation of Site

YEA-MANSFIELD RAILWAY - Heritage Inventory Description
Railway embankment running along the eastern side of the Melba Hwy, south of Yea, for approx. 5km. contains some remnants of tracking although most has been removed. The land form and earthworths (embankment and cuttings) remian visually distinct in the landscape.
Railway embankment and cuttings. Bridge abutments and footings. Associated artefacts - some sleepers, tracking & studs. Calverts running through embankment.
Physical Conditions: Low level of intactness, moderate - high intensity.
