Statement of Significance
What is Significant?
St Mark's Parish Primary School, comprising the building constructed c.1934 at 118 Argyle Street, Fawkner. The other school buildings on the site are not significant.
How is it Significant?
St Mark's Parish Primary School is of local historic, social and aesthetic significance to the City of Moreland.
Why is it Significant?
Of historic and social significance as an early school in the Fawkner area, which demonstrates the suburban development that occurred in the intewar period. (AHC Criteria A.4 & G.1)
Of aesthetic significance as a representative example of a simple Interwar school building, which is notable for the structural and decorative use of clinker brick and the facade detailing. (AHC Criterion E.1)

ST MARK'S PARISH PRIMARY SCHOOL - Physical Description 1
St Mark's Parish Primary School is a small red brick building with clinker brick dressings and a gabled terracotta tiled roof. Walls are in stretcher bond, and a soldier course of clinker bricks runs around the building at plinth level. The gable end facing Argyle Street has three tall windows with arched clinker brick surrounds, infilled with leadlit stained glass. The gable apex is surmounted with a small stone cross. Between the brick piers or buttresses on the side elevations are large timber-framed windows. Later red brick additions, also with gabled roofs, exist adjacent to the west of the original building. A double storey classroom wing stands to the north. There are also other school buildings on the site.
