The c1910s/1920s weatherboard combined shop and residence and the surrounding site to the title boundaries.
How is it significant?
The combined shop and residence is historically and aesthetically significant to the Shire of Nillumbik.
Why is it significant?
The combined shop and residence is historically significant because it illustrates the once common, but now rare, practice of shopkeepers living on their premises (Criteria A & B). The combined shop and residence is historically significant because the building is one of a series of properties constructed after the arrival of the railway to Hurstbridge (1912) and illustrates the growth and change that it brought to the town (Criterion A). The combined shop and residence is aesthetically significant because it is externally intact, featuring a polygonal verandah corner (a rare example in the Shire of the use of Edwardian-era decorative feature,) and is an integral component of a cluster of surviving c1910 and c1920s structures that gives the centre of Hurstbridge its special character (Criteria B & E).
