Statement of Significance
Deloraine Terrace was erected in 1886-87 for Samuel Shorey. The facade of the two storey brick structure has arcuated mouldings and polychrome brick decoration around the openings. There is a rendered pediment name plate in original colours above the central house and a two storey gallery across the whole street facade.
This is an exceptionally fine example of boom style terrace architecture. The composition of projecting centre house with elaborate balustrade and parapet flanked by more ordinary pairs is notable. The typical boom decoration of polychrome brick, rendered parapet and cast iron gallery is enhanced by the stylised trabeated system on the facades, superb gardens and a picket fence. It is an outstanding element of Royal parade and the Parkville area and a fine example of a distinctive Melbourne building type.
The terrace has been recently restored. The picket fence is compatible.
