    Statement of Significance

Completed in 1910 and built by A Sturrock for his own occupation, this Edwardian-style residence is remarkably intact both internally and externally. Internally the doors still have their original elaborately carved blackwood surrounds, many windows have the original leadlights, the floor is marble squared, some walls have scenes painted by the original owner and the sitting room ceiling is hand painted with art nouveau foliated relief work.
Externally the house is an excellent example of the Edwardian era with its Marseilles roof tiles, terracotta chimney pots and dragons, a large attic with balcony, a wide verandah and a belvedere.
The house is unusual in that it is one of the few to have survived intact in Parkville as a large private residence in its original extensive and attractive garden setting.
The front garden fence is of considerable interest with its wrought iron palisade on a bluestone plinth with pink and white octagonal marble posts with relief carving to each panel. This fence and gate are included.
