Statement of Significance
Glenfern, Amberley Court, Bulleen, is a brick house built c. 1857 for A M Caldecott. The symmetrical, single storey house is surrounded by verandahs supported on paired timber columns, decorated with a fine and delicate valence. Construction is in brick with a hipped slate roof on paired eaves brackets. The rear section is diminished in width in comparison with the front rooms.
The property is one of the earliest surviving houses in the district, has historical associations with the settlement of the area and is architecturally notable for its verandah and planning. The house also forms part of the history of the area. In a Colonial derived Italianate style, the house is essentially of its era, but is distinctive for the timber valence detailing and for the use of reduced rear wings. The house is in good condition and is largely intact.
