Statement of Significance
A building of State historical significance because of its early date of construction. The Grange was constructed in c1854 as the residence of Peter Virtue, merchant and prominent Victorian Baptist. Built in coursed bluestone rubble with unusual hipped dormer windows, The Grange has rarity value as one of a decreasingly small number of gold rush era buildings in Victoria. It has important associations with Peter Virtue, pioneer Pentridge (Coburg) district settler, who lived there from the 1850s until his death in 1889.
