RICHMOND COTTAGE, BENTINCK ST, PORTLAND - History
Site of Edward Henty's 1834 house and farm. Demolished and a timber cottage built in 1842 by S.G. Henty. Licenced as an hotel by William Paramor in 1879. This was demolished in 1963 and the site rebuilt, only the gate and garden wall surviving in good condition.RICHMOND COTTAGE, BENTINCK ST, PORTLAND - Interpretation of Site
Residence - demolished and redeveloped, only garden walls remain. 1842 residence consisted of a large building set in centre of the block with a large garden at the front.

The is archaeologically significant as there is potential for subsurface deposits relating to the cottage and hotel in less disturbed areas.
RICHMOND COTTAGE, BENTINCK ST, PORTLAND - Historical Significance
The site is of local and regional significance as teh location of early Henty brothers pastoral farm and cottage, one of the first in Victoria, later a hotel (1879).

Now site of motel. Only stone garden wall remains. Site inspected Jan 1994 - paint cleaned from extant wall (as per 1983 recommendation).
Heritage Inventory Significance: The site of t he first pastoral establishment in Victoria and an important site associated with the Henty brothers.
