Statement of Significance
A town hall of regional, architectural, historic and social importance. The Box Hill Town Hall, was built in 1934-35 to the design of J S Gawler and J C Aisbett. It is a noteworthy example of the neo-Grec style applied to a major public building with consistency and sophistication. It is a substantially original and monumental symmetrical town hall complex having a portico recalling neo-Grec forms but being enriched with Moderne ornamentation in the portico capital treatment, lighting, window architraves and interior fitout including balustrading, lighting and plaster work. The town hall has played a prominent role in the history and social life of the area as a venue for numerous functions and special events over the years.
