This site is of high archaeological significance as a rare example of a whaling site in Victoria containing intact deposits.

This site is historically significant as part of the first permanent settlement in Victoria. Also assoc. with an Aboriginal massacre site and it's occupation by the Gundidjmara eople, representing evidence of early contact & conflict with Aboriginal populations.

CONVINCING GROUND ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE, FERGUSON RD, ALLESTREE - Heritage Inventory Description
Brick and possibly bluestone footings exposed on a sandy track which runs parallel to, and about 40 metres from, Narrawong Beach. The area of exposure measures about 0.75 x 1.0 metres with associated brick scatter. A thin scatter of cultural material including hand-made nails, glass and ceramics is evident close to the footings. A small test pit did not locate extended footings, but exposed fragments of brick and a dark green bottle base at about 0.3 metres.
