Statement of Significance
The present Fincham Organ factory building is the sole remaining section of a factory complex established on this site by George Fincham in1862. From this site, Fincham built organs for churches, public halls and residences throughout Austrailia and New Zealand. He was the major Australian organbuilder last century and built such major instraments as those in the Exhibition Building, the Australian Church, Freemasons Hall and St. Kilda Town Hall. The number of istruments he built or rebuilt is thought to exceed 200.
All of the sections which comprise the present factory (voicing room, machine room, pipe shop and erection area) are of historically significance, with the exception of modern office extension to the north,
