GRANGE INN, DIGBY RD, HAMILTON - History
The Grange Inn was opened in 1843 as the first permanent building at the Grange later to become Hamilton. With extensions, and various proprietors, the Grange Inn remained as an Inn until 1863 when it was flooded by the creek and abandoned (Ian Balck, pers. comm. feb/09).GRANGE INN, DIGBY RD, HAMILTON - Interpretation of Site

The site is historically significant as the site of the first Inn in the area which the town was subsequently named after. Represents early settlement of the Hamilton region.

Site of first permanent settlement in the Hamilton District, c 1842, including the Grange Inn, a blacksmith's and a store. Still existed in 1948 but since demolished.
