Statement of Significance
North View Villa is a brick villa erected for Joseph Stout c. 1883. The single storey residence is symmetrical with a cast iron verandah to three sides, supported on cast iron openwork instead of conventional columns. The house is constructed in face brickwork with stucco quoins and hipped slate roofs. The entrance is centrally located and there are bay windows.
North View Villa is architecturally notable as a typical Boom style villa given distinction by its openwork iron verandah columns and also by its role in the historic townscape of Ballarat. Openwork iron columns are uncommon in Victoria and most of the examples are in Ballarat, reflecting the local cast iron industry of the nineteenth century metropolis. The use of face brickwork and stucco quoins is of note.
North View Villa is in good condition and very largely intact.
