Statement of Significance
Adam Lindsay Gordon's Cottage, Botanical Gardens, Ballarat, was the home of the celebrated poet and horseman between 1867-1868, when Gordon ran the livery stables behind Craig's Hotel in Lydiard Street. The cottage was originally located near the livery stables behind the hotel and was moved to its present site in 1934. The single storey, symmetrical weatherboard cottage has a hipped corrugated iron roof and an iron verandah on timber posts.
Adam Lindsay Gordon's Cottage is of primary importance for its associations with celebrated poet and horseman Adam Lindsay Gordon, a figure of considerable stature and fame in both the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The cottage is an early structure representative of dwellings of the time and their construction is of interest by its association with its location near Craig's Hotel.
