Statement of Significance
The Gothic villa Belleville was built for David Boswell Reid, a most distinguished Geelong surgeon, and upon completion in 1870 was considered "The handsomest villa in Geelong". The design, which introduced the latest Victorian era Gothic Imagery and Dichromatic brickwork to Geelong, is an outstanding work of the noted architectural firm of Davidson and Henderson. The interiors are innovatively detailed, with the iron balustrated staircase, plaster ceilings and billiard room of great interest.
