Statement of Significance
Innisfree, Kyneton, (1863-64) is architecturally and historically significant at Local level as one of the oldest houses in the town of Kyneton and its shire, and as the residence of well-known local personalities, Captain O G Armstrong and George W Johnson, Kyneton's first Member of the Legislative Assembly. It was originally intended for use as a hotel and thus contains a large wine cellar. It was later converted into a private hospital/nursing home before being reconverted for use as a private residence. It was renamed Gainsborough in the 1940's but reverted to its original name in the 1950's.
