Statement of Significance
The 1912 Swan Hill Butter Factory building is architecturally important as a well maintained example of a symetrically designed dairy industry building commonly built during the 1912 expansion of the dairy industry. Similar in design to both Horsham Butter Factory (now the Italian Club) and the Maffra Butter Factory (now a timber processing plant) the building has had many uses over the years but is instantly recognizable as a butter factory.
Historically the Swan Hill Butter Factory reflects the long record of dairying in the Murray Valley and its site behind the new Murray Goulburn complex signifies the importance dairying still has in the region.
