Statement of Significance
Built at Moama and launched in June, 1876, the 'Gem' was the largest Murray river paddles steamer. She was originally used to carry cargo and wool, but was later enlarged to also carry passengers. Since 1963 she has formed part of the historical display and tourist attractions at Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement.
